Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa! You have a tremendous opportunity to help girls understand the true inner power they possess; to serve as the critical ‘fuel’ that propels them forward in life.  As a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run, you can unleash the strength, bravery, and limitless potential of girls right here in eastern Iowa! 

About the season

Our Fall 2018 season will begin the week of September 3, 2018 and run through November 10, 2018, culminating with a 5k on November 11. Our teams consist of 8 to 20 girls that meet two times each week for 75-90 minute sessions that are led by at least two fully-trained coaches at each session.  We'll have around 30 teams at various locations (mostly schools) and times in the the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area. You can see a list of confirmed sites and times here. 

We have two programs: Girls on the Run is for 3rd-5th/6th grade and Heart and Sole is our junior high program.

New coaches must attend mandatory training on one of the following dates:

 Coaching opportunities

Head coaches must be women ages 21+ who understand and believe in the mission of GOTR. This is a 4-5 hours per week commitment for the 10 week season and first-time head coaches must attend coaches training. Head coaches will prepare, organize and supervise two weekly lessons or assign these to assistant coaches, help organize Running Buddies for each girl, and attend the end-of-season 5K to run and cheer on your girls.   

Assistant coaches can be men or women ages 18+ who understand and believe in the mission of GOTR. This is a 2-4 hour per week commitment for the 10-week season and first-time assistant coaches must attend coaches training, assist the head coach as directed, attend weekly lessons, attend the end-of-season 5K to run and cheer on your girls.

Junior coaches are girls ages 16-17 who understand and believe in the mission of GOTR. This is a 2-4 hour per week commitment for the 10 week season; you may attend one or both practices each week. First-time junior coaches must attend coaches training and help the head coach and assistant coaches as directed.

Substitute coaches can be men or women ages 18+ who understand and believe in the mission of GOTR. First-time substitute coaches must attend coaches training and assist the head coach and assistant coaches as directed.

 Junior helpers are girls ages 14-15 who understand and believe in the mission of GOTR. This is a 2-4 hour per week commitment for the 10 week season; you may attend one or both practices each week and assist the head coach and assistant coaches as directed. Junior helpers do not need to attend coach training.
